“energising the creative response to climate change”
TippingPoint was founded in 2005 and is a network-based organisation connecting the arts and climate science worlds; TippingPoint’s role is to be a catalyst in bringing together artists and scientists, to expose artists from all art forms to the enormous challenges of climate change. Artists can learn how to reduce their carbon footprint, and by engaging artists in the issues and concepts regarding climate change they can themselves produce creative but informed work that goes on to engage the public. They offer a range of activities centred on working in tandem with the scientists at the forefront of research on the subject.
A core aspect of TippingPoint’s work is an international programme of two-day gatherings where “artists and scientists participate in an informal but intense series of meetings and exercises to provoke and engender collaborative thinking and creative work”. Since 2005 TippingPoint has held over 15 Open Space gatherings across the globe, including in New York, Oxford, Cape Town and London.
